EPHE 380 Laboratory Project Research Topics

You will be conducting a research study in a small group. You will hand in parts of the paper as the semester progresses and at the end of the semester you will hand in a complete research paper. The research paper assignment is worth 20% of your course grade. You will note this is a group assignment and submission – there will be no exceptions. You are adults and are responsible for dividing up the duties within this assignment. Your experimental task will be assigned by your laboratory instructor. Note, each laboratory section and group will be using a different technology and running a different experiment. Although you will do this assignment as a small group, you will use the data from your laboratory section for the results section. The research paper will include 5 components:

1. Introduction. You will write a four to five paragraph introduction for your research paper. Instructions will be provided as to how to write an introduction on the course website. The introduction will be worth 5 points. The grading rubric for the Introduction can be found HERE.

2. Methods. Your will write a four to five paragraph methods section for your research paper. Instructions will be provided as to how to write a methods section on the course website. The methods section will be worth 5 points. The grading rubric for the Methods can be found HERE.

3. Results. Your will write a one to two paragraph results section for your research paper and generate at least one results figure and one table. Instructions will be provided as to how to write a results section on the course website. The results section will be worth 5 points. The grading rubric for the Results can be found HERE.

4. Discussion. Your will write a three to four paragraph discussion section for your research paper. Instructions will be provided as to how to write a discussion section on the course website. The discussion section will be worth 5 points. Note, students will also be expected to submit a title page, abstract, and reference list at this time. The grading rubric for the Discussion can be found HERE.

Example EPHE 380 Research Experiments

Topic I: Electromyographic Analysis of Biceps Muscle Exercises
Students will conduct a study similar to the assigned paper (see below) to use EMG to study the effectiveness of three different triceps brachii muscle exercises. Click HERE to view the assigned paper.
