While you can always compute descriptive statistics by hand, R has many additional packages designed to make life easier for you.
1. Load the data HERE.
data = read.table("sampleanovadata.txt")
2. Rename the columns to make life easier:
names(data) = c("subject","group","score")
3. Install the pastecs package:
install.packages("pastecs")
library(pastecs)
4. Run one of the useful tools in pastecs to generate a lot of useful descriptive statistics:
by(data$score, data$group, stat.desc)
This command simply runs the functions with stat.desc for each of the group variables separately. Very useful for a quick overview of your data. Enjoy!
